This (is not) the (only) Question…
Writing the first article for a new website comes with both a certain kind of freedom and also responsibility, especially when addressing a highly sensitive topic such as (food) addiction.
I could start with how just by looking around in our society we can see huge issues crying for answers and long-term solutions, especially when it comes to health—be it physical or mental/emotional. In the whirlwind of rapid and overwhelming changes of today’s society and lifestyle, we are all searching for quick fixes and anchors—things that, at least temporarily, bring us joy, comfort, or a sense of relief.
But we all know that humans have a yearning for all of this on a much deeper level, too: to experience true happiness, to feel calm, to release tension, and to recharge.
Sometimes we look for these things in the wrong places, expecting external sources to give us something they simply cannot. Different substances, experiences, programmes, people, relationships can come to mind when thinking of this but let’s not forget, this is often true for certain foods or food ingredients.
When we have information about how addictive behaviors or addiction in general works and take a closer look at our own relationship with food and eating, we might start to piece together an explanation for something that has seemed puzzling until now.
The goal of this blog is to share articles and insights on food addiction, a subject researched for over 30 years. Through these posts, I hope to help readers better understand the phenomenon of food addiction, explore related emotional and mental health topics, and, for those who feel affected, find tools and support to break free from this state.
